Last weekend (September 3rd) my younger brother Timothy and I took our 3 market lambs to the county youth livestock show. Because our heritage Gulf Coast Native sheep don’t necessarily conform to industry standards, we went with the knowledge that we probably wouldn’t win anything, but we would have fun anyway.
When we got there, it turned out the sheep show was much smaller this year, with only 6 or 7 other entries all in the heavyweight market lamb and breeding ewe classes while our lambs were in the lightweight market lamb class. Also, all the other exhibitors were under 7, so Timothy and I were the only ones in our showmanship classes!
Because of this, we won first (and last lol!) place in our showmanship classes, our lambs took first and second place in the lightweight market lamb class, and my lamb won reserve champion market lamb! Between the two of us, we won 3 blue ribbons, 1 red ribbon, the reserve champion rosette, a scholarship, a (very nice) chair, a feed scoop, a halter, a gift card to Southern States, and cash premiums!
Timothy has decided that he wants us to enter again next year; in the meantime, we will work with next year’s lambs to hone our sheep showmanship skills and prepare for more competition in the 2017 show!

Great job boys!!!
Thanks!
Great job! Way to get out there and promote the breed and have fun doing it.
